Resumen

Many of the practices of scientific medicine have a mirror image of those used in popular medicine, which came before. There is a need to distinguish between those popular practices which have a scientific foundation (i.e. they could be explained and demonstrated through scientific studies) from those practices without. There are no studies in the city of Meliana (Valencia) on popular medicine. The present work seeks to catalogue and to quantify the popular remedies found in the city of Meliana, passed down by word of mouth generation after generation, indicating the origin, source, time and place of these popular remedies, and to establish the typology of the medical systems utilized at that time.
