Abstract

Few scientific studies have adopted a gender perspective on the language used in medical and health records, clinical trials, and communication between professionals and users in Spain. For this reason, a qualitative methodology based on phenomenology was selected to cast light on the language used regarding gender and sex from the perspective of current and future healthcare professionals and other allied professions. Depersonalisation, lack of gender identity, and confusion around terms such as gender and sex were the most recurrent findings, pointing to the need for an approach that will allow adequate interpretation of the data and encourage respect for people’s identities.
