Abstract

Comics are a real challenge for the translator: the coexistence of different codes (linguistic and iconic), the very frequent presence of cultural references, colloquial language or humour make the translation of comics a task that is often difficult to carry out. There are many studies that address the analysis of each one of these particularities. However, this article aims to approach the translation of comics from the point of view of studies about the translator, and not only about translation. In fact, with this article we pursue a double purpose: on the one hand, we want to describe the different phases of the translation process of a Francophone comic into Spanish, Les Chemins de Malefosse, paying special attention to the interaction of the different agents that intervene throughout this process, and highlighting that the translation, in this case, is a cooperative work. We also analyzed the particularities of this French-Spanish translation project and the challenges that the translator had to face. The study shows that the organization and business management of the translation project has a direct influence on the final product, that is, on the translation itself.
